WSIB Amnesty Until March 31 |
WSIB Amnesty Until March 31
Until Mar. 31, 2008, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) is offering full amnesty for employers who register with them voluntarily. It is a policy intended to encourage non-compliant companies to come forward and register for their protection and the protection of their employees.
Full amnesty means:
• No penalties;
• No prosecution under the Provincial Offences Act;
• No reconciliation interest;
• No retroactive premiums.
After Mar. 31, 2008, all voluntary registrants will receive partial amnesty for coming forward. This partial amnesty will still mean no penalties, no prosecution and no interest on retroactive premiums.
The difference is that employers receiving partial amnesty will still have to pay retroactive premiums. Those who register voluntarily after Mar. 31, 2008 will have to pay retroactively from January 1 of the year preceding registration or from the date of their first hire – whichever is later.
Employers are not eligible for amnesty if they have already been identified by the WSIB as non-compliant before their voluntary registration.
