President’s Message
By Randy Walden, President, OIRCA
Ontario Roofing Forum
OIRCA & Ontario Chapter of RCI Join Forces
The Ontario Industrial Roofing Contractors Association (OIRCA) in partnership with the Ontario Chapter of RCI, Inc, The Institute of Roofing, Waterproofing & Building Envelope Professionals will be staging a forum on roofing related issues.
Scheduled for Thursday, November 9, 2006, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, the event will be held in the Northern Dancer Room at Woodbine Racetrack in west-end Toronto.
A panel of industry professionals made up of designers, contractors, product suppliers and property management experts will address issues currently facing the ICI roofing industry in Ontario.
Topics of discussion will include: environmental issues, concerns over the rising cost of roofing services, the thorny issue of roofing guarantees and warranties, UL and FM concerns and the controversial debate over re-roofing versus roof recovering.
This is not the first time the two organizations have teamed up to work together for the betterment of the industry. In fact, the notion of roofing contractors and roofing consultants developing closer ties began back in the mid-nineties when OIRCA revamped their Consultant membership category by making RCI membership a prerequisite. Back then we also added a position on our Board of Directors for a Consultant Member with RCI reciprocating by offering up a position on their Ontario Chapter Board in 2002.
Our marriage strengthens, as plans are afoot for a joint industry conference where the two Associations and their memberships will come together to attend roofing interrelated technical and business sessions. That affair will likely occur sometime in 2007 or early 2008.
If roofing is an important part of your business, you will not want to miss our joint forum in November. Everyone is welcome. For more information contact either Deborah Pricop at our OIRCA office, 416-695-4114/1-888-336-4722 or Brandon Hexham at RCI, 905-508-5575.
