CORTEC® VPCI™-373
WASH PRIMER ELIMINATES CHROMATE & ACID TREATMENTS FOR ALUMINUM, STAINLESS
AND GALVANIZED
Chemists from
Cortec Laboratories have introduced VpCI™-373, a low-VOC water-based wash
primer specifically designed to promote adhesion on aluminum, stainless and
galvanized metals, and to eliminate previously required hexavalent chromate or
acidic washes. Rather than going through
the time consuming, costly and environmentally damaging process of using acids,
manufacturers can simply apply a thin coat of VpCI-373 and then paint as usual.
The end result is improved adhesion, more durable corrosion protection, lower
environmental and worker safety impact.
Originally
developed to meet the stringent requirements of RoHS regulations in Europe and
the requirements of aircraft manufacturers, VpCI-373 offers an
easy-to-implement alternative to chromate or acid washes, while increasing
performance, durability and corrosion of metals. Utilizing Advanced Green
Technology from Cortec Corporation, VpCI-373 is available in clear or
green-tint, and requires less than half the thickness of other coatings,
offering drastic cost savings. In addition, VpCI-373 does not contain
hexavalent chromium that is commonly used as a surface treatment prior to
painting; hexavalent chromium restricted and monitored by RoHS in relation to
electronics manufacturers.
By incorporating
Cortec’s proprietary Vapour phase Corrosion Inhibitors (VpCI™) chemistry,
VpCI-373 provides unparalleled corrosion protection, and virtually eliminates
blistering, creepage and adhesion problems. VpCI-373 is suitable for
stand-alone protection of aluminum, stainless and galvanized metals for
indoor/sheltered environments, or can be top-coated with Cortec VpCI-386 for
outdoor exposure applications.
