INDUSTRY COALITION FORMED TO ADDRESS CHANGES TO FM GLOBAL PROPERTY LOSS PREVENTION DATA SHEET 1-29
In January 2006, FM Global made significant changes to Property Loss Prevention Data Sheet 1-29 titled “Roof Deck Securement and Above-Deck Roof Components.” The changes particularly affect the design of fully adhered roofing systems that require a Class 1-90 rating or higher on steel decks. Fully adhered systems are defined as hot applied built-up and modified bitumen membranes, torch applied modified bitumen membranes, cold process built-up and modified bitumen membranes, self-adhering modified bitumen membranes and single-ply membranes, and fully-adhered single-ply membranes installed over mechanically-attached insulation, with or without a cover board, on a steel deck. Before this change, the requirements for perimeter and corner attachment could be met by simply increasing the number of fasteners in the perimeter and corner areas for listed systems.  Read more...

Sustainable Buildings Canada (SBC) is pleased to launch its new web site featuring news on upcoming events, green building resources and assessment tools, recent newsletters and a member listing. The web site address is www.sbcanada.org.

TORONTO DEPUTY MAYOR RECEIVES CIVIC AWARD OF EXCELLENCE
Councillor Joe Pantalone, deputy Mayor of the City of Toronto, received the Civic Award of Excellence from (itals)Green Roofs for Healthy Cities(enditals). Pantalone played a central role in Toronto’s adoption of the first comprehensive set of green roof policies in North America. Pantalone was recognized, along with award winning designers, at the Fourth Greening Rooftops for Sustainable Communities conference and trade show held in Boston, Mass., earlier this year. The event attracted over 800 attendees and 70 exhibitors for a week of professional development, tours and exhibits. Green Roof Awards of Excellence celebrate projects that are holistically designed and provide benefits in terms of the function of the building site and the surrounding community. AF Material Corporation has announced plans to build a new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility for production of its EverGuard® TPO roofing membranes. GAF expects this facility to be fully operational by the third quarter of 2007.Located in Gainsville, TX, approximately 50 miles north of Dallas, this 185,000 sq. foot facility is strategically positioned to provide quality TPO membrane and accessory products to support growth primarily in the western and southern markets.
