Polyfoam Launches Its Eco-Friendly Tile Roofing System Ecoset™

Polyfoam Products Inc. has launched its Ecoset Tile Roofing System for steep slope roofing. A revolutionary energy-efficient and eco-friendly roofing system, Ecoset is specifically designed for California’s Title 24 mandate and other building codes that are beginning to implement energy-efficient guidelines for the construction industry.

The Ecoset system consists of a waterproofing underlayment, a layer of expanded polystyrene (EPS) insulation adhered by ribbons of Polyfoam’s unique, two-component polyurethane free-rise adhesive and an approved roofing tile adhered to the insulation by individual paddies of Polyfoam’s adhesive. The R-value of the five-part Ecoset system is 10.68, while a traditional, mechanically-attached system offers an R-value of only 2.59.

Heat flow testing at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, Tenn., shows that the Ecoset system reduces peak heat flow through the roof deck by approximately 80 per cent versus a dark heat-absorbing shingle in the summer. Ecoset also limits night-time heat loss in the winter by nearly 70 per cent compared to direct-nailed shingle roofs.

In addition to its energy-efficient benefits, Ecoset increases the service life, strength and durability of a tile roof system. Polyfoam’s Polypro® AH-160 polyurethane adhesive offers two to three times more staying power than traditional tile attachment methods and can withstand winds exceeding 100 mph.

Ecoset is the first and only tile attachment system to feature a total system warranty. This world-class warranty will not only cover the performance of Polyfoam’s AH-160 adhesive, but the underlayment, insulation and approved roofing tile as well.

In addition to Ecoset, Polyfoam offers Polyset® and Tite-Set®. Polyset is Polyfoam’s original tile attachment system, while Tite-Set is the company’s commercial insulation board stock adhesive system. Polyset and Tite-Set utilize the same AH-160 adhesive and offer protection against hurricane force winds.
