Gold Seal Certification
Now certifying health and safety personnel
The Gold Seal Certification program will
soon being certifying personnel under the designation “Construction Safety
Coordinator.” Gold Seal will being accepting applications early in 2007.
Gold Seal is the Canadian Construction
Association’s Canada-wide certification program. The program measures
applicants against a standard for experience and competence in the following
fields:
- Project Manager
- Superintendent
- Estimator
- Owner’s Project Manager
- Construction Safety Coordinator
Gold Seal defines a Construction Safety
Coordinator as a jobsite employee responsible for assisting management and
other personnel in administering, developing, implementing and monitoring the
health, safety and environment (HSE) program.
The Construction Safety Coordinator reviews
and updates management on a variety of HSE issue specific to the job site.
Gold Seal worked in partnership with
provincial safety associations across Canada to set the standards for the Construction
Safety Coordinator designation.
CSAO will be involved in implementing the
program.
“Extending the Gold Seal program to safety
professionals will raise the bar for expertise and skill in the field,” said
Roy O’Rourke, CSAO’s executive vice president and general manager.
“Professionals who pursue certification
will have a career edge. We expect the best companies to seek them out.”
The certification process includes an exam.
Applicants are expected to have a combination of certificates, experience and
education in the field of health, safety and environment.
Those without sufficient background can
register for Gold Seal Intern status, which requires that they work toward
getting the prerequisites for certification.
Gold Seal Construction Safety Coordinators
will be able to apply for the designation “Professional, Gold Seal Certified
(P.GSC)” if they demonstrate annual professional development activity.
