Qwatro Corporation Introduces New Chlorine
Dioxide Delivery System
Qwatro Corporation, a manufacturer of
environmentally friendly sanitation and industrial maintenance products, has
announced the introduction of a new chlorine dioxide delivery system – Selectrocide®.
Qwatro Corporation is the new distributor
of Selectrocide chlorine dioxide products in Canada. Selectrocide chlorine
dioxide is registered in the United
States by the EPA for the prevention and
elimination of potentially deadly infections commonly known as “staph”
infections. The MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus) “super bug”
has been typically contracted in hospitals, or other healthcare environments.
However, recently this “super bug” has been causing illnesses in healthy adults
and children in communities across the country and is now known in the medical
community as CA-MRSA or Community-Acquired Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus
aureus.
According to Bob Wagner, president and
chief chemist at Qwatro, “The Selectrocide delivery system (which resembles
large tea bags) can produce 99.99 per cent pure chlorine dioxide solution with
no by-products quickly and easily, making it ideal for use for any potential
threat of a pandemic – by instantly having a solution that is capable of
killing these dangerous viruses.”
Until now pure chlorine dioxide could not
be produced at the point of use, nor could it be transported on site due to
federal restrictions. For the first time you can easily generate specific
concentrations of chlorine dioxide at the point of use, at a neutral pH and
with no residuals, using only tap water. Users simply submerse the Selectrocide
sachet in water. The resulting chlorine dioxide solution can by sprayed, mopped
or sponged onto surfaces that require disinfection killing disease-bearing
bacteria, bacteria, bioslime, algae, yeast, mold and fungi.
“Selectrocide is ideal for use in areas
where they require quick and effective disinfection such as Nursing Homes,
health clubs, spas, public places such as homeless shelters and swimming
facilities as a treatment against CA-MRSA,” Wagner said. “Selectrocide is also
effective against vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecalis, athlete’s foot,
Mycobacterium bovis (TB) and other pathogens that spread in many environments.”
Chlorine dioxide has been used by large
food and beverage plants in Canada
as an effective disinfectant for many years. However, the production of the
chlorine dioxide used required large scale chemical production equipment to
generate. Now, with Selectrocide, pure chlorine dioxide can be produced
immediately on site.
“It is highly effective in the removal of
biofilms,” Wagner said. “Biofilms are an ideal environmental for dangerous
pathogens to grow and recontamination can occur very quickly if the biofilm is
not completely removed. Most sanitizers and disinfectants are unable to
penetrate or remove biofilms especially where there is a headspace. Since
chlorine dioxide is a gas it reaches areas that are not wetted in a closed
environment.”
Selectrocide is also said to be effective
in killing the Canine parvovirus that is often fatal for dogs; so it can be
useful for veterinarians, vet hospitals and any kennel environment.
