What is Dirt…or is it Soil?

Since we are always working on ways to remove it, it might be a good idea for carpet cleaning technicians to have a better understanding of what dirt—or soil—really is.  
Attempting to explain the difference between dirt and soil, a teacher once told me: “dirt is what you track in on your mother’s floor…soil is what plants grow in.”
